Communication Disorders and the Role of the Speech-Language Specialist in the Public School Setting
Presented by Shelley Zakim, Speech-Language Specialist
Shelley Zakim received her Bachelor’s degree in Speech Pathology at Boston University and her Master’s degree at Teacher’s College, Columbia University. She has worked for the Edison Township Public Schools as a Speech-Language Specialist for the last ten years and is currently a member of the Preschool Child Study Team. She has also served as an adjunct professor at Kean.
Presentation
The speaker will provide an overview of normal speech and language development, speech and language disorders, and the role of the speech-language specialist as a member of the Child Study Team and as a related service provider. Criteria for eligibility for special education and related services and eligibility for speech-only services will be discussed.
