What Does This All Mean?

Using Formal and Informal Reading and Writing Assessments to Determine Programming.

Heather Clowers, M.A., LDT/C, NCED, OG-T, works as a LDT/C in the Washington Township School District, with students from pre-kindergarten to grade 5. She began her career as a general education teacher. She obtained her Master’s degree and LDT/C certification from Kean University. She is a former president of NJALC and holds the NCED credential.
Sue Pensack, LDT/C, NCED, has 38 years of experience in education. She has taught preschool through 8th grade both in general and special education. She has been a LDT/C for the past 16 years, and is currently with the Mt. Olive School District, as well as teaching supplemental instruction in Orton-Gillingham. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Rider University and a Master’s degree in special education from East Stroudsburg University. She has been a Nationally Certified Educational Diagnostician since 2003.
Reading and writing difficulties in the classroom can often present an educational quagmire. Is the problem developmental, based on a disability, or a combination? Is it dyslexia? This workshop will explore various formal and informal assessments utilized to determine eligibility for services and overall programming. Discussions will be held regarding assorted programs designed to meet the needs of learners in the areas of reading and writing, with a lively give-and-take in how to best tweak daily schedules to meet students’ needs.
